Since the bulbs aren't included, you'll need to buy a Type A bulb with a max wattage of 150 and screw it into the E-26 socket. The 3-way socket and turn-key switch on the socket let you adjust the light to your liking. The cord is 6 feet long and comes out from the base, so you can place the lamp where you need it.
